Hong Kong Express Airline Chooses Guam —'America in Asia”-- As Its First U.S. Destination

HK EXPRESS CHOOSES GUAM

AS INAUGURAL U.S. DESTINATION

HK Express, Hong Kong’s first and only low-cost carrier has chosen Guam

–“America in Asia”- as its first U.S. destination.

The airline says it is waiting on regulatory approval before accepting bookings and launching service to Guam, but its online route map lists destination Guam as “coming soon.”  A direct flight from Hong Kong to Guam is less than a 5 hours.

Steady, robust growth in Guam’s tourism industry, including several record- breaking months of visitor arrivals in 2015, has prompted considerable interest in the island among Asian carriers.  Just last week the U.S. Department of Transportation approved an application from Korea based Eastar Jet to start direct service between Seoul and Guam starting in the summer of 2016.

HK Express and Eastar Jet will join more than a dozen other airlines from Asia and the U.S. that already service the island.

Guam’s 170,000 full-time residents welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors in 2015 and local officials say they are on track to cross the 2 million annual visitor count in 2020.

This growth in tourism is also creating opportunities for EB5 investors. The government of Guam is offering a 10% tax credit on new hotel room construction costs –including projects that convert existing properties into hotels or condos that serve the visitor market.  The island is also seeing growth in other construction, particularly retail shopping centers.

Guam Strategic Development Regional Center, which does business as Guam EB5, is the island’s first US government approved EB5 Regional Center.  It is locally owned and specializes in helping immigrant investors from neighboring Asian countries identify job creating project opportunities that fully meet the requirements of the US EB5 visa program.
