Groundbreaking set for large medical facility
Community leaders have announced a groundbreaking ceremony for a large multipurpose medical facility located on five acres near Old Town Hesperia.
The Hesperia Chamber of Commerce said community and city leaders will be on hand to welcome Suncor at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Last year, Suncor LLC announced plans to construct a 39,000-square-foot development, which includes a 52-unit independent living facility, a 99-bed skilled nursing facility and an outpatient dialysis center.
Claudia Kano, senior vice president with Suncor, said the project would bring more that 480 full-time jobs to the area, along with some part-time positions, and would be partially funded by the EB-5 program.
The EB-5 program allows foreign citizens to secure green cards when they invest in the U.S. They must invest at least $500,000 per family in projects that create at least 10 jobs per investor.
Mayor Thurston “Smitty” Smith said once the project is complete, the economic boom to the city, “especially east Hesperia,” will he huge.
“They just started the permit process, but when that facility is open they’ll have a lot of people with high-paying jobs,” Smith said. “That will only fuel our economic engine.”
The facility will be built at 17577 and 17579 Sultana Street, directly behind the Foremost Senior Campus, a 96-bed assisted living facility with an additional 67 independent living apartments on the campus.
Kano said funding for the project comes from EB-5, with the remainder coming from private investment dollars. A Taiwanese doctor is the independent owner and investor of the facility, with no connection to the Foremost campus.
