Construction crews have officially begun work on Portland's latest hotel, a 203-room Hyatt House that will sit a block from the Willamette River.
Williams/Dame & Associates is the lead developer behind the new hotel, which will rise up in Portland's RiverPlace neighborhood at the corner of Southwest River Parkway and Southwest River Drive. The Hyatt House will be a 6-story, 161,000 square-foot hotel with 203 extended-stay rooms, a pool, fitness center and 1,400 square feet of conference space, including a 14-seat board room.
Its location is within walking distance of MAX light rail, the Portland Streetcar, the Portland Aerial Tram, downtown Portland and the South Waterfront District.
In addition to Williams/Dame & Associates, the development team includes EB5 Global, a firm led by Devin Williams, which is raising equity capital for the project through the EB-5 Investor Green Card Program. EB5 Global is also responsible for obtaining project approval and managing project compliance with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service.
SERA Architects designed the building, which is targeted for LEED Silver certification, and the contractor is Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty Company. The same team also collaborated with Williams/Dame and EB5 Global on Portland's new Residence Inn by Marriott, the first hotel to open in Portland's Pearl District.
This new hotel represents Hyatt's first foray into downtown Portland.
A brief on-site ceremony to mark the groundbreaking will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. It will feature Homer Williams, the development team, investors, representatives of the Portland Development Commission and Portland Mayor Charlie Hales.
The grand opening of the hotel is slated for July 2016.
