Letter: City council: Avoid appearance of scandal

In a recent Sioux Falls City Council meeting, it was voted on how we elect the city council members to office. This seems to be a major conflict of interest. If changing how we elect the council is that big of an issue, shouldn’t we the people of Sioux Falls be allowed to vote on it? In light of the fair scandal, the Gear Up grant scandal and the EB-5 scandal – even the appearance of impropriety may be held by many, since the city council voted on how the city council is elected. This is what most governments in America are trying to avoid: The appearance of impropriety.

So, to hear people say, “How dare you accuse me?” – in all the scandals I previously mentioned, the guilty parties all have said the same thing.
