Joanne Chiu

Joanne C. Chiu, CPA, is a Senior Manager, Business Development - China Desk at Marks Paneth LLP. She has more than 20 years of accounting experience including 15 years in public accounting. At Marks Paneth, she has provided a broad range of tax planning and consulting services for closely held businesses and individuals, including international clients. Her areas of specialty include real estate (both commercial and residential), estates and trusts, and high-net-worth individuals. She has served a broad range of international clients who invest in the real estate markets.

Ms. Chiu is a founding member of the Marks Paneth China Desk, a cross-disciplinary team of professionals who assist Chinese businesses and individuals looking to work, invest, raise capital or do business in the United States. She is a native speaker of both Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. As a result of her success working with Asian clients, in July 2015, Ms. Chiu transitioned into a full-time business development role. Focusing on the China Desk, she works primarily with international clients to understand their accounting needs, liaising to match client requirements with Marks Paneth resources and expertise. Much of her practice involves EB-5, real estate, trusts and estates and merger and acquisitions. She also provides critical networking services linking clients to other professional service providers including architects, bankers, contractors, developers, lawyers, loan brokers, insurance companies, international consulting firms and commercial & residential real estate brokers.

Ms. Chiu began her career working with James Woo, CPA, a sole practitioner. In 2005, she moved overseas to Taiwan to work as a cost accountant in Texas Instrument Taiwan Limited. Prior to joining Marks Paneth in 2000, she worked for Sentinel Real Estate Corporation in New York as a senior accountant overseeing an $800 million real estate investment fund.

Ms. Chiu is actively involved with the National Association of Asian Professionals (NAAAP), serving as a Senior Advisor for the New York Chapter, and with the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), where she is Treasurer of the Manhattan Chapter. She also volunteers her time in various Buddhist temple affiliations and supports children in third-world countries.

Ms. Chiu holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from New York University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Ms. Chiu is licensed to practice public accounting in New York and is based at Marks Paneth’s New York City headquarters.
