Mr. Black has been engaged in private law practice in New York City for almost 40 years having started his career at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn. He formed the law firm of Black & Associates on January 1, 2002 to focus on the representation of small and newly formed businesses. His practice has been concentrated in the area of business startups, including many Internet and software companies for approximately fifteen years. From 1986 until December 31, 2001, he was a member of the law firm of DeForest & Duer, as Chairman of its Corporate Department. He also serves as general counsel to other business enterprises.
Mr. Black served as Vice Chairman of MacMillan Ring-Free Oil Co., Inc., a publicly traded oil and gas company, in 1986 and 1987 and was a member of the Board of Directors of Vault.com Inc., a career-oriented Internet and publishing company, from 1999 until October 2007. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of United Compressor, LLC, a company engaged in the installation and maintenance of compressed natural gas stations, a Managing Director of Aleutian Capital Partners, LLC, a company engaged in the mergers and acquisitions advisory business, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Cleveland E. Dodge Foundation, a private charitable foundation.
Mr. Black received his BA in 1968, his law degree in 1971, and his Master of Laws in Taxation degree in 1979, all from New York University. He is a member of the tax section of the New York State Bar Association and the business law and taxation sections of the American Bar Association.
