Mark Mayer has extensive experience in a wide range of commercial real estate roles including portfolio management, asset management, investment analysis, project management, equity/debt raising, investor relations, reporting and risk management. He has developed and implemented various types of real estate financial models at a corporate finance level as well as at the project and property level.  He is an experienced user of ARGUS, Excel and Yardi. 

Following five years as an Economist at a real estate consulting firm focusing on public/private developments, Mark worked as an Associate at Institutional Property Consultants in San Diego before the firm was acquired by Russell Real Estate Advisors.  Mark performed investment due diligence at the property level as well as for numerous pooled fund investments sponsored by major institutional real estate investment management firms.  He also managed the annual valuation process of several large direct investment commercial real estate portfolios valued more than $500 million.  These portfolios were comprised of retail, multi-family, office and industrial assets located throughout the U.S.    

In 1998 Mark joined Burnham Pacific Properties (BPP), a public REIT focused on neighborhood and community shopping centers, as a corporate finance analyst.  During his tenure at BPP, he maintained and managed the company’s corporate earnings model, prepared BPP’s quarterly sourcebook for investors and served as the primary analyst for the company’s 6.5 million share secondary public stock offering.  In 2000 he was promoted to Director of Capital Markets at Burnham Pacific where he authored the winning response to CalPERS’ RFP for a retail property investment partner resulting in formation of an $800 million property fund. Mark also was responsible for preparation of credit facility compliance reports to syndicate lenders for a $280 million credit facility and served as an investor relation contact working with institutional investors and Wall Street analysts. 

Subsequently, Mark was one of six founding Principals who formed and successfully operated, a real estate investment and management firm, National Retail Partners (NRP) with 35+ employees responsible for a $1 billion retail real estate portfolio in the western U.S.  At NRP Mark served as Portfolio Manager and managed client services and reporting functions, including overseeing monthly, quarterly and annual performance reporting, risk management and special projects. He was responsible for developing and implementing tactical strategies for a portfolio with $90 million of annual net operating income. Mark served on the firm’s Investment Committee and was responsible for portfolio results which exceeded NCREIF retail property benchmarks in every quarter by a minimum of 50 basis points. 

Mark has also worked as a consultant to private developers in various capacities including the analysis and underwriting of potential investment opportunities performing detailed financial analysis via Excel and Argus cash flow modeling as well as financial reporting and preparation of annual property budgets.  He has extensive due diligence experience including lease abstracting, detailed budget analysis and market research.

Mark has over 15 year of experience in commercial real estate. He is skilled in negotiating and structuring real estate investment partnership agreements with sophisticated institutional investors as well as with service providers.  Mark has managed institutional client relationships with equity investors and lenders throughout the entire investment process.  He is experienced in working with legal counsel in the structuring of partnership and operating agreements as both an investor and capital provider.  Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate and Marketing from the University of California, Irvine.
