Laura Edgerton has practiced immigration law for more than twenty years. She brings a high level of corporate immigration experience to the firm along with a strong commitment to ethics and the desire and ability to help her clients achieve their goals. Ms. Edgerton is a Raleigh immigration lawyer who is well known in the business, legal and immigration communities for her ability to solve complex problems involving the employment of international personnel in the U.S as well as her persistence and creativity in finding workable solutions for her clients.

Ms. Edgerton has been selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2008 in the area of immigration law. Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers®has been universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States and is considered by The American Lawyer to be “the most respected referral list of attorneys in practice."  Ms. Edgerton was also selected as the “Raleigh Best Lawyers Immigration Law Lawyer of the Year” for 2012 and 2015, based on the particularly high ratings she received in a peer review survey for her abilities, professionalism, and integrity.

Ms. Edgerton is frequently invited to speak at national and regional immigration conferences on such topics as permanent residence, H-1B and training (H-3/J-1) visas, and employment verification/I-9 issues. She has authored and edited numerous immigration articles in leading publications and has been interviewed extensively in the business and local press on immigration issues. She is a former Chair of the Carolinas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and, as such, a former member of AILA’s Board of Governors. She is a former member of AILA's Distance Learning Committee and has also previously served as the Vice Chair of the Ethics and Practice Management Committee for AILA National and as the National Chair of AILA's Young Lawyers Division.

Following a federal judicial clerkship, Ms. Edgerton started her career with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC, in Winston-Salem.  In 1996, she joined Maupin Taylor, PA (now Williams Mullen), in Raleigh, North Carolina, to develop and manage the firm’s immigration practice. Most recently, Ms. Edgerton was a partner at another immigration law firm in Raleigh. Ms. Edgerton is a magna cum laude graduate of North Carolina State University and a cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law.
