Denise Thomasson is an attorney at Maggio+Kattar. With more than 15 years of experience in immigration law, Denise's experience blends lessons learned both in private practice, as well as a number of years as an adjudication officer with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). During her time with the DHS, Denise strove to streamline systems and improve consistency within the decision making process. At Maggio+Kattar, Denise applies her unique insight and capability to help clients navigate the layers of bureaucracy and intricate laws, faced by those applying for benefits under United States’ immigration and nationality laws.
Prior to joining Maggio+Kattar, Denise Thomasson was with the Pederson Immigration Law Group, where she assisted J-1 Physicians apply for waivers of the two year home residency requirement, as well as other clients applying for immigrant and non-immigrant visas.
Denise has a passion for community activism and is the founding board member of ACAM (African Communities Against Malaria) a group dedicated to eradicating malaria and developing childhood survival programs.
Denise has a Juris Doctor from The American University’s Washington College of Law, and Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Akron. She is a member of the New York Bar and is fluent in Spanish.
