BIO

Mr. Almquist is founder & managing partner of Valyrian Capital, an opportunistic, multi-strategy real estate private equity fund platform headquartered in New York.  He has extensive experience in real estate & structured finance and has monetized over $65 billion in non-performing or distressed real estate & financial assets.  Since founding Valyrian, Mr. Almquist developed the first EB-5 Redeployment Fund Vehicle, as well as the Valyrian Fund Incubator, which intends to create a fully disintermediated MWOB fund-of-fund product for Tax-Exempt investors.

Prior to founding Valyrian, Mr. Almquist worked at a JV between Fortress Investment Group & CW Capital, where he spearheaded asset & property management, as well as building the entire analytics platform for a portfolio of more than 13,000 NYC rent-stabilized apartments, including Stuyvesant Town Peter Cooper Village.  He began his career on the Securitized Product origination, advisory & principal finance team at Barclays Capital in New York, where he focused on distressed mortgage portfolios and special situations.  While at Barclays, Mr. Almquist advised US governmental agencies, foreign sovereign entities and major financial institutions in the valuation & disposition (and in certain instances, acquisition) of distressed real estate asset portfolios.  He also aided in the development of multiple new or emerging asset classes, including the Single-Family Residential (“REO-to-Rental”), Residential Servicer Advance (MSR) & the Freddie Mac STACR synthetic credit risk-transfer securitization programs.

Harry was born and raised in Boston, MA, and his first job was as a Front Office Intern for Theo Epstein and the Boston Red Sox in 2003 (where he was nicknamed ‘Moneyball’).  He wrote his BA thesis on      Glass-Steagall reform, and graduated from the University of Chicago with honors.
