Martin Brown is a graduate of the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he received the Eric B. Jensen Award for integrity, professionalism and high academic performance, the Gardere & Wynne Environmental Law Award and a Certificate in International and Comparative Law. Martin served as a Senior Staff member on the Tulsa Law Journal and as President of BLSA (Black Law Students Association) at the College of Law.  He received both his B.A. in Political Science and M.A. in American History from the University of Tulsa.  Martin is also a graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s Graduate School of Successful Trial Advocacy Seminar. 

While in law school, Martin attended the Universidad de Palermo in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he studied International Corporate Law and Project Finance.

Martin is a member of both the State Bar of Texas and Oklahoma Bar Association and is admitted to practice in all federal districts in Oklahoma, the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas, United States District Court for Colorado and 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. Martin’s practice focuses on venture capital/private equity transactions and business formation matters. His work includes advising clients on contract matters, corporate and securities law matters, private offerings, SEC/NASD compliance, commercial real estate transactions, as well as representing clients in highly complex commercial litigation involving securities, employment law and banking matters.  His work also includes presenting “SEC/NASD Compliance: Designing and Implementing an Effective Compliance Program for Mutual Funds, Investment Advisors, and Broker Dealers” and “How to Survive a SEC Examination” presentations to bank executives, fund managers and advisors, and other investment professionals.  Martin teaches CLE on the topic of “Negotiating Commercial Leases”.

Following his undergraduate studies, Martin served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1994. In 2006, Martin started his own private equity/venture capital consulting firm, Zhemian Ventures, LLC. Prior to joining the firm, Martin worked as an attorney at the law firm of Mulinix Ogden Hall & Ludlam, PLLC in Oklahoma City.

Martin volunteers at the Dallas Life Foundation’s homeless shelter. In Oklahoma, Martin served as a volunteer for Tulsa Jobs Partnership, for Big Brothers and Sisters of Green Country and on the Advisory Board for Liberty World Outreach Church. Martin’s personal interests include screenwriting, playing the bass guitar, working out and golfing.  Martin, his wife Donesha, daughter-Allie and son-MJ live in Grand Prairie, Texas.
