Richard A. Jacobson is a shareholder in the firm’s Tax Section. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Board Certified by The Florida Bar in International Law.
His legal practice includes representation of foreign clients seeking pre-residency tax planning assistance; coordination of U.S. tax and immigration planning; foreign investors in U.S. real estate (FIRPTA) and other business ventures; U.S. companies exporting products or services or conducting business internationally; foreign manufacturing activities of U.S. clients; U.S. business executives planning extended tours of duty overseas; IRS Voluntary Disclosure, FATCA and FBAR reporting; inquiries from foreign attorneys, trust companies, and accountants; and international estate planning. 

Richard is an Advisory Council member at the University of South Florida School of Accountancy. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the International Tax Committee of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is the Director of the Tampa Bay Area Committee on Foreign Relations. He was a Gubernatorial Appointee to the Florida International Trade and Investment Council and delegate to the Mayor of Tampa’s Mission to Cuba. He served as an Advisory Board member at the University of Florida International Center and Alumni Council at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He is an alumnus of the American International School of Kabul, Afghanistan. 

Richard has been selected by his peers to be listed in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2006 and has garnered an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review rating, the highest available mark for professional excellence from Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Ratings. He was named to the Florida Super Lawyers list consecutively since 2007. 

He received his B.B.A., with honors, from the University of Georgia, his J.D., with honors, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University.
