Owen Gu is a licensed lawyer in New York and New Jersey. He was born in Beijing, China and received his Bachelor of Commerce degree (Honors) from Queen’s University in Canada. Subsequently, he was awarded the St. Thomas More Full Tuition Scholarship to attend St. John’s University School of Law in New York City where he earned his Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.). While at law school, he served as the Notes and Publications Editor for the New York Real Property Law Journal and actively participated in various legal internship programs including, but not limited to, a judicial internship program with the New York City Civil Court (Housing Part), an externship program with the New York City Police Department –Legal Bureau, a volunteer internship program with the Queens District Attorney’s Office, and an international legal internship program with the United Nations. Prior to coming to Zhang & Associates, P.C., Mr. Gu practiced with a boutique law firm in New York City, focusing on commercial litigation, immigration, and matrimonial law. He joined Zhang & Associates, P.C. as a business development attorney with a focus on developing Chinese markets and advising Chinese corporations and individuals on U.S. immigration and corporate law.

At Zhang & Associates, P.C., Mr. Gu is in charge of business development matters, especially in the area of EB-1A, EB-2 NIW, L-1, and EB-5. He has assessed eligibility for foreign corporations and extraordinary individuals. Mr. Gu has been a major driving force in advising potential EB-5 regional center companies and individual clients, providing them with information regarding to the creation of EB-5 regional centers and EB-5 Direct investment. Although Mr. Gu’s primary focus is for the firm’s business development, Mr. Gu has also handled some challenged EB-1A cases. For example, he successfully obtained EB-1A Approval for a Successful Businessman Residing Overseas from China.
